Now Accepting Clients
Founded in 1792, Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft is one of the oldest continuously operating law firms in the United States. In 1819 the beginnings of Cravath, Swaine & Moore came into existence when Richard Blatchford opened a law office in New York. Later that same century other big name law firms began to appear including Sherman & Sterling, Milbank, Sullivan & Cromwell, Gibson Dunn and Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett. With the dawn of the industrial revolution and the corporate growth in America more and more corporate firms began to appear at the beginning of the new century. Among these new firms were Covington & Burling, WilmerHale, Latham & Watkins and Debevoise & Plimpton. Shortly thereafter came the serious juggernaut firms of Skadden, Paul Weiss and Cleary Gottlieb to name a few.
In 1965, an unprecedented event occurred. Four lawyers formed a partnership that quickly became the most profitable and prestigious firm in the United States. The four lawyers were Herbert Wachtell, Martin Lipton, Leonard Rosen and George Katz. The name of their firm was none other than Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. Never before had such a young firm gained so much power, prestige and notoriety so quickly…until now!
I am pleased to announce the launch of the Law Office of Samuel R. Smith, PC. Now advising closely held businesses and entrepreneurs.
